folding multiwii hexacopter

after having built many different quadcopters it was about time to build something bigger and better. here it is my first foldable multiwii hexacopter.

the motor mounts are made of 3d printed abs plastic. they are attached to 15 mm aluminum square tubes. the tubes are hinged to a center plate using 3d printed abs parts. the center plate can be rotated from a position in which the arms can be clamped to a another in which they can be folded for easier transport.

specs:

  • takeoff weight: 2 kg (including 4s 5000mah lipo)
  • diameter: 800 mm (between motor axes)
  • flight controller: multiwii se 2.5
  • motor: mt-2212 750kv
  • propeller: 10 x 4.5
  • thrust/weight ratio: > 2.5
  • flight time: ?

the entire hexacopter was designed with the direct modeler creo elements express:

quadcopter #5

this is my second foldable quadcopter.
since the first foldable quadcopter suffered heavily from vibrations the design had to be made much stiffer. this was achieved by increasing the diameter of the carbon rods, shortening of the rods and increasing the diameter of its body.
the design of the quadcopter can be found here.

the following video shows the quadcopter in action:

quadcopter #4

this is my first foldable multiwii quadcopter. it is a very lightweight design and therefore prone to vibrations. in fact, the vibrations were so strong that it was very difficult to fly this multirotor.
